This project developed guidelines to plan, implement, and evaluate riparian silviculture projects in lowland areas of the South Coast of Oregon. Planting trees and shrubs is considered a key element for restoring riparian areas. While riparian silviculture is reasonably well developed in forested areas, there is an almost total lack of guidance for how to conduct planting trees in lowland areas where agriculture is the predominant adjoining land use. This need for planting guidance is broadly recognized, not only by participating watershed councils but also by the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and OSU Extension. This project arose as a result of discussion among watershed councils and the aforementioned partners.
