If you would like to be involved in watershed restoration projects on your own land, begin by contacting the Coos Watershed Association, (541) 888-5922.
Initial steps:
A projects manager or other staff member will determine if your site is eligible for a watershed project.
The projects manager will submit it to the Coos Watershed’s Restoration Committee for review, and then to the Board of Directors for approval.
Once the Board approves the project, Coos Watershed staff will seek grant funding for the project from various sources.
To qualify for funding, the project must be beneficial to salmon and/or water quality, and be of high priority in the watershed..
Watershed restoration project priorities are established in the watershed assessment process.
The Coos Watershed Association, and other natural resource organizations, conduct field surveys and assessments of conditions in the watershed and its sub-basins. These assessments point to areas and components that need to be protected from farther negative impacts, enhanced, or restored to proper functioning condition. The Coos Bay Lowlands Assessment and Restoration Plan was developed in 2005 and provides a model for the incorporation of public participation in the assessment and restoration planning process.
Participation in Coos Watershed Association projects is voluntary, and the Association does not use landowner information for regulatory purposes
