He remembers sitting in an ecology class on the first Earth Day celebration in 1970 and he completed his first watershed assessment on a 150-acre pond in Vermont in 1972. Since then he has worked for the Federal government, done fisheries extension work with the Peace Corps in Nepal, worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and spent several years as a professor of Forest Policy at Northern Arizona University. When he isn’t at work, he is busy reading, creating stained glass artwork, or fixing up his 109 year-old house.WHAT JON DOES AT COOSWA Jon joined the Coos Watershed Association in 2000 as their second executive director. As executive director his job is to implement the vision of the Board of Directors and the mission of the Association. This includes grant research and writing, hiring and retaining of staff, recruitment and development of board members, and communication and coordination with project partners.
